I’ll Huff And I’ll Puff

March 7-13, 2021 – Joseph Castillo

This morning my co-worker locked herself out of the office.  She sent me a text, “Let me in, or I’ll huff, and I’ll puff.”  Immediately my mind went to the cartoon that I watched many times as a kid—the cartoon of the “Three Little Pigs” that is based on a fable.

One pig made it’s house out of straw and another out of sticks.  A “Big Bad Wolf” comes along, and he wants to have the pigs for dinner.  But the pigs will not let him in.  The first pig had made his house out of straw, and the second pig out of sticks.  The “Big Bad Wolf” says, “Let me in, or I’ll huff and I’ll puff and I’ll blow your house down!”  Those two little pigs’ homes do get blown down and they run to the third pig’s house, who had made his house out of bricks.  The “Big Bad Wolf” could not blow down that home.  It was too strong.

God’s word tells us that there is a “Big Bad Lion” looking to see who he can devour (1 Peter 5:8).  Sounds scary!  This lion is Satan, and he can be dangerous if we don’t have God in our lives.  Jesus tells us to build our house on the Rock (Matthew 7:24-27).  The Rock is none other than Jesus Himself (2 Peter 1: 1-9).  Jesus is asking us to build a strong relationship with Him, and if we do, nothing in this world will blow us down.
Suppose you want to be able to stand when the “Big Bad Wolf” of life comes, when the circumstances of this world come to blow you down.  If you have a trusting relationship with Jesus, and you ask Him to be by your side, then you can weather any wind storm that comes to knock you over (2 Chronicles 20:6).  Are there winds that are trying to blow you down now?  Then run to Him and say this Psalm with me “He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved (Psalms 62:6).”
